– About

“Los and Chris. Ode To Friendship” is a book about intimacy, memory, and the language of connection and creation. Its material includes paintings and ceramics, performances, found objects, memories, snapshots of Athens and visual scores. A constellation of gestures, it reflects Yorgia Karidi’s distinct gaze and leaves a strong, lived-in imprint on both her visual and her inter/personal alphabet, as well as the artistic process itself.

The book is the result of a months-long collaboration between Yorgia Karidi and the publishers, aiming to materialize Yorgia’s world into an object that resonates aesthetically with its contents. Its narrative transforms individual works into a coherent whole, with rhythm and progression, while the materiality of the publication further emphasizes its layered character. Each image featured in the book is accompanied by a corresponding caption at the end of this bilingual edition.

The publication includes fragments from the personal archive of Yorgia Karidi and is accompanied by a discussion between the artist and Danae Stefanou, based on Yorgia’s practice in the context of the book.

– Short Bio

Yorgia Karidi is an Athens-based artist, musician and performer working across painting, sculpture, video, performance and verbal scores. Her practice explores memory, desire and consciousness, often through the human voice, investigating its social, historical, and cultural contexts. Her work has been presented at venues including the Athens and Epidaurus Festival, the Greek National Opera, SNFCC, the National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens, the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, as well as interdisciplinary spaces in Berlin, Graz, Munich and Leeds. She has released music on labels such as Nutty Wombat, Inner Ear Records, Trial & Error, Ecstatic and Bokeh Versions. Karidi studied theater and film at the University of Patras and the Freie Universität Berlin and holds an MFA in Digital Arts from the Athens School of Fine Arts.

– AKTINA 4

In the spring of 2024, Manos traveled to Athens to paint Grigoris’ van. The message read “Palestine Tours”, a statement asserting that Palestine cannot be erased from the map.

During his stay, he bunked at Christos’ house, and the two spoke daily about the events in Gaza, feeling deeply affected. They decided to create a series of illustrations that would capture, in a direct way, essential ideas surrounding the issue. They chose a cheap, childlike material, easy to cut and ideal for printing. Manos carved grotesque, ominous, frightening figures into children’s craft sponges. They worked with colored papers, using oil paints for printing. The result was raw, almost impulsive, childlike yet terrifying.

The publication includes selected images from a larger set of prints. Sequentially arranged, the images act as a visual diary — fragmentary, urgent, unrefined — like the emotions that gave birth to it. In the last pages of the book, Grigoris’s poem attempts to give voice to the unfinished narrative.

The cover image, printed on fabric, raises questions, while the creators leave the reader with a short, paraphrased excerpt from George Bataille’s Theory of Religion.

– Short Bio

Reach People (Manos Venieris and Christos Kotsinis) is a creative duo whose work reflects their hearts and minds. They seek to satisfy their senses through visual nonsense while living in a state of general warfare, drawing a distinction between the mental processes of the rational and those of a simple, deranged creator. Their work is never direct, never a simple, one-dimensional message. It is always a question, not an answer. They do not engage in didactic work; instead, they create pieces that pose uncomfortable questions, articulated through cheerful, comic-like characters and images.

– AKTINA 5

“Volcano Dreams” is a poetic and visual descent into a dreaming world – one shaped not by order and reason, but by heat, pressure and the slow rituals of transformation. Here, the volcano is not merely a landscape, but a dreaming force: an ancient intelligence that thinks in magma, speaks in minerals and reshapes reality from beneath.

Its dream is not passive. It generates time, weather, memory – and us. Within its sleep, we are formed – as mineral, as breath, as fleeting geometries drawn in ash. The dream doesn’t simply alter the world we live in, it alters the very fabric of what we are. To enter this book is to enter that dream.

Composed like a slow, eruptive film, the book advances through frames of mythopoetic prose, found images, layered collages and hand-drawn tremors, each a timestamp in a dreaming sequence. These are not illustrations but pulses of an alternate reality system, one where matter is sentient, language is volcanic and time spirals rather than flows.

“Volcano Dreams” invites us to abandon the logic of control and step into a different metaphysical atmosphere where perception melts, forms ferment and everything is always on the verge of becoming something else. It asks not what we see, but how we dream of the world.

– Short Bio

Jannete Mark is a visual artist based in Kampos, Chios (GR). She holds a master’s degree in Art & Design from Werkplaats Typografie (NL). Her work explores the correlation between material and immaterial processes — geology, decay, memory, language, and transformation. Through drawing, writing and research, she engages with slow forms of change — treating language as a living residue shaped by time, matter and shifting perceptual states. 62

– About

Buongiorno is the latest EP by Athens-based producer and sound artist Echo Canyon (Dimitris Patsaros). Clearly geared for the dancefloor while bringing equal parts of weirdness and audio brute force, EC casts polyrhythmic alchemic spells across noise soundscapes reverberating with the ferocity of jungle music, techno, DnB, African electro and footwork.

“While experiencing the process of language acquisition by a growing child, euphoric emotions turn into sounds driven by the urge to react and, eventually, to dance,” notes the artist. “Moving the tongue like limbs can be fun. Consonants that are pronounced with a burst of air (such as “p,” “b,” and “t”) can convey a sense of energy and excitement. Gibberish is not useful for communicating complex or meaningful ideas and can quickly become tiresome or frustrating. It means nothing but it feels like something. Kids know best.”

– Short Bio

Athens, June 2023

– About

Photonisos (Φωτόνησος) was established in 2014 in Kontakeika on the island of Samos, and was the first ever photography initiative to operate in a Greek village.

During the first few years, Photonisos was under the umbrella of Pythagoras Kontakeika F.C., but has found its rightful place as the photography arm of Cultural Non-Profit Organization “Photonisos Arts & Culture” since 2019.

In their first photography book “Winter, as if it were” («Χειμώνας ή σαν να ήταν»), Photonisos members grapple with the feeling of extreme isolation that comes with living on a Greek border island, far away from the decision-making centers that determine the course of their lives.

The images are shown in chronological order. We start in the winter and end the following year, arriving back where we started – in the wintertime – like a spiral that will never again reach the same point. An imaginary cycle of daily life, where time expands and contracts through a series of moments, each image leaving a trace on the next, like a conversation between past and present. An exploration of collective lives through an individual lens.

Format: 160 x 120 cm, 100% cotton

B/W silkscreen print on canvas. Edition of 30.

Printed by Manolis and Chrysanthos Angelakis at Tind and tailored by Alaaeldin Halawany, between 2021-2022.

– About

“Dancing stars stem in our eyes when we sleep with our lids open” was conceived as a contribution to the group show “What is above is what is below and the sky is a mirror reflecting back at the world” in September 2021. It was a collaborative proposal for the Armeni Minoan Cemetery in Crete by Nicola Baratto, Viktor Gogas and Yiannis Mouravas.

Defined by the landscape, the contribution inhabited the space between Thanatos and Hypnos, standing between two seminal works of art, a video installation by Xaviera Kouvara and the soundscape “exp sun” by Andreas Ragnar Kassapis. The relationship between the soil and these two states of being, led the artists to create a series of textile works that served both as shrouds and picnic blankets for a woodland adventure. The piece is a multi-use surface imprinted with psychedelic geography and poetry.

This current edition is a series of one-of-a-kind silkscreen printed canvases produced after the show.

– AKTINA, Issue 2

“There’s an inherent spatial separation between interior and exterior. But when a window opens, interior and exterior no longer apply. It’s impossible to tell where “within” ends and “without” begins… A window allows for the possibility of an appearance. A contrast between two scenes. Reflections are key as they taint everything they touch, affecting our perception of any image. In the process of seeing, the viewer becomes an integral part of what they have just seen. It is now impossible to separate the two.

The viewer is the actor. My window views are my personages. (Rik De Boe)”.

– Short Bio

Onebran (born 1989) is an Athens based Visual Artist. Born and raised in Patras, Greece, he became involved with Graffiti writing since 2001. He graduated with a Graphic Design degree in Athens, where his studio is currently located.

Onebran creates in public space and not only, with his spontaneity always giving surfaces new life in a persistent search for new forms or elements. While focusing on large scale abstract murals, projects range from small paintings or comissioned artworks to installations or video animations.

Deeply influenced by contemporary culture and society’s everyday observation, his work deals with transformation and experimentation and has diverse applications. Daily life impacts on his creativity and emotions define everything he does.

Agios Anthropos, Orila and Untitled-1 present Kostadis’ long awaited full-length album ‘Emerald’.

This new set of recordings is a declaration of neo geo pop exuberance that boldly contradicts the back catalogue of punk, drone and noise abstractions that Kostadis had become synonymous with.

Its 11 tracks set the stage for a contemporary synth panorama of treated vocals, downbeat compositions and minimal electronics, a blend of African polyrhythms and space age music.

Earthy, meditative and lush, ‘Emerald’ instantly transports the listener to a sensual dreamscape. It eliminates the distinction between experimentalism and pop, while re-imagining classic masters, like Vangelis, Yellow Magic Orchestra and Mike Oldfield.

– Short Bio

Self-taught multi-instrumentalist and music engineer Kostadis has become a stalwart of the Athens music scene thanks to his improvisational solo electroacoustic workouts, while making a name for himself as a key player in various bands, including Lost Bodies, Sclavos and Wham Jah.
