– About

Rooms in Negative is Andreas Ragnar Kasapis, a prolific Athenian artist actively involved in painting, sound, text and publishing. In 2018 RiN put together a strip down audio set up consisting of a guitar amp, a tablet pc, a microphone and a loop station. Using this minimal set up he slowly crafted audio loops to accompany him through his painting sessions. A single loop could last as long as he was in his studio painting, reflecting on areas of interest through themes of repetition, oscillation, layering, echoing, hiss, surface noise, intermediate spaces, the nuance of memory and the pliancy of perception. These themes slowly but steadily came into balance with the accompanying audio loops, creating an alternate reality in which the image and the sound became indistinguishable and practically fed from each other.

Lucky Boys is a selection of these loops -turned into recordings- that were made between 2018-2019. Through the 11 tracks that consist Lucky Boys, RiN presents an incredible skill in dealing with isometric systems of sound that have a strong sense of spiral repetition, gravitating towards mystical and infinite compositions. Layer after layer, the sound comes through as waves of alternating emotions and forgotten dreams. There is an aura of affirming melancholy on these compositions, a re-visitation of utopian soundscapes, existing as improvised memories and perception shifts of what is real and what not.
